Don't think I've seen it in the comments or heard it mentioned in the video: "My loyal blade, and champion of the festival" is about our Tarnished, and Malenia. NOT Leda and the Tarnished. Also a few theories I've had about the DLC Lore: Miquella is gathering an army to take over The Lands Between, and the tarnished we encounter there are to be his generals, representing one faction each, except for Moore, who is more of the logistics guy. Leda - Haligtree Freyja - Redmanes Ansbach - Moghwyn Dynasty Thiollier - St. Trina's Worshippers Hornsent - Hornsent They are who Miquella will use to enact "Peace, by force." Messmer is the one who did the first Burning of the Erdtree, not conciously, but the moment he (and Melina) was born (if they were twins), I believe, is when the Erdtree burned down. This is why Marika could never love him as her child.

I'm trying to answer a question that has been floating in my head in the last week: is Mesmer an empirean?

I was waiting for this lore video after the DLC was released! Now everything makes much more sense. I also now get why Messmer is the one with the figure for the collector's edition. You kinda feel bad for him after everything that happened.

While I would have loved to fight Marika herself at the end of the DLC, I ultimately love that we, the tarnished, are her chosen and she has our back in one way or another. We were her ace in the hole all along.

The kneeling figure surrounded by flame in the trailer appears to be Romina, as you can see the shape of her glaive!

In the end, Mohg managed to beat the allegations and was revealed to be the victim instead, genuinely one of the most tragic characters and deserves all the apologies coming to him til the end of time.

Doesn’t the ending kind of recontextualize the Golden Epitaph Sword? „Dear Brother, Lord Brother, please die a true death“ - maybe he was praying for Radahn to not end up like his golden brother down at the roots because he needed Radahns soul in the shadow realm and not to get it destroyed for his plan to work out?

Given that the land of shadow was once physically connected to the lands between (as per Miyazaki), it's only logical that the shaman village isn't her original "birthplace" and she indeed does come from another world, whatever that means exactly.

Regarding the Radahn and Miquella vow, perhaps originally it WAS mutual, but then the Shattering happened, and Radahn receiving a Great Rune pushed him in a different direction? Maybe the power of his Great Rune heightened his loyalty to the Golden Order to the point where he forsook his vow to Miquella and chose to seek his own rule to reinstate the Golden Order, and so Miquella sent Malenia to collect him and force him to honour his vow. Which then unfortunately led to their conflict, and Malenia feeling forced to unleash the Bloom so that Radahn could be collected, one way or another

If you look closely, the scadutree is actually a spiral tree. I think it’s pretty obvious that it’s the crucible, or more like its corpse, a shadow of its original form; hence the name: scadutree.

What I want to know is how are the erdtree and the scadutree related? Are they the same tree? Are they in the same physical location? Where is the realm of shadow in relation to the land between?

Every time i think about Marika its almost impossible not to think of Gwynavere. Both divine Mothers associated with life. The more games Miyazaki makes the harder it is to not see a shared universe or multiverse. I always theorized that Gwynavere's mother was the Witch of Izalith. Gwynavere being the product of Light and Life like a tree of light. Im not saying Gwynavere and Marika are the same person but definitely share similarities. Though seeing them as separate entities is hard considering Gwynavere fled the land if the Gods and Marika and her People came from another world... I think the story is different but Marika and Gwynavere are basically the same character just re-imagined. Also Marika/ Radagon Gwynavere/Gwyndolin... I mean the lore basically writes itself

Ok, so...maybe those golems have a face of a fire giant because...he was an ally before? I mean, Marika does that move many times with using someone and then descarding of them. Aaaand many of those times she marries leader of used group. Don't wanna point fingers buuuut...isnt it weird that first two children (Melina and Mesmer) are fire-powered?

54:52 I dunno. To me it sounds like Messmer was used by Marika to betray the Hornsend. Attacking them while she ascended to Godhood. In that moment, she used her power to seperate the lands with the Erdtree and Shadowtree. Messemer continued to Crusade in Marika's name, but was abandoned, along with everyone there. Marika shattered the land like it was the Elden ring, then concqured the rest of it with Godfrey during the chaos. Nuking Farem Azula alone sounds like a Tactical move, especially if the Dragon Lord was the Elden Lord at the time.

The question I have: If Merika created the Erdtree, why do we see multiples of it in the Elden Beast fight? Perhaps Merika did not intend to create it? Maybe the Erdtree being created is a representation of the Greater Will inserting itself into the Lands Between? Maybe when someone ascends to Godhood, the Greater Will goes to that universe to keep things on track and make sure the Gods don’t abuse their power? Maybe all the tree’s are representations of all the different Universes where Gods have been created?

Couple things: The Crucible didnt beget Life, Lofe begat the Crucible. "Base" Serpent Messmer implies that Messmer is an illegitimate child. Which also implies Marika's infidelity to some other potential deific figure. Possibly some form of infidelity involving a serpent god? The Scadutree Avatar is a _sunflower_ for some reason. Sunflowers face the Erdtree, yet not the sun? There is a new imp head, Horned Lion. I want to assume that one of the most important gods of that time was actually the Horned Fell God of Fire (as seen in the Furnace icon) which bares a canny semblance to THE SUN. Thus, there must have been a Horned Lion God of the Sun at one point. This God is what was originally praised (assumedly) by the hornsent (who also bear a crown of horns) and was also displaced as the source of Light in the Lands Between. This implies that Marika did something to make the Erdtree take this Lion God's place and cast the worshippers of this Lion God into an _eternal shadow of the Erdtree._

god int got shafted in this game compared to faith, must be like 3 incantations to 1 spell. probably the same in ash of wars n weapons..... kinda sucks like 20 hours into the dlc n found 2 itn spells.....

I think we need to change out view of the use of the word departed in to mean passing on to the afterlife. Mogh removing miquella from his tree clearly had the unintended effect of killing st.trina and miquella. Miquella purpose for going into the tree was to break his curse of eternal youth and by the description of st.trina torch he succeeded but its clear that once he was removed from the tree it cause them to die. Miquella departed(die and went to the land of shadow) and their he discovered the sins of marika and he probably changed his goals. There is mention in the death knights that they followed godwyn here, when would godwyn ever travel here? in the base game many rituals to lay people to rest are described and the dlc mentions all matter of death land here. The land of shadow is clearly a purgatory, an afterlife a final resting place for souls before they reicarnate or something. Marika removal of destined death makes more sense now, no real way for a soul to go there and someone manage to find her original sin. Why is it that this land has a much more powerful manifestation of other outer gods power? Many things though to have been lost to time or that have died are here.

I think everything mohg’s goal was all him except loving Miquella that was all miquella’s manipulation, mohg’s dynasty and rebellion and wanting to ascend to godhood to recreate a world of blood without the fingers and greater will where the people that support him will be earned with love power etc was all him, it’s his love for miqulla that was manipulated. If we had a ending for mohg which would be the age of blood he would definitely not be as evil as people would think he would be, he’s only evil because of Miquella’s manipulation to having him love Miquella.

You should redo the mohg lore video with same music and new lore because of the dlc. I do request Laurence’s theme to be in the video to add a dark tragic tone to mohg’s lore.

Melina=GEQ Is basically misinformation at this point. The closest info I know of, regarding GEQ is that the putrescent knight was called Knight of the GEQ in gamefiles. Nothing to do with Melina. Melina isn't the Gloam eyed queen, if anything she's got way more to do with the frenzied flame; it is possible that she was born cursed by the outer god of chaos/frenzy, given how Messner was cursed too; it seems to me that except Miquella, all the other children of Marika/Radagon are cursed by outer gods/ plot relevant figures: Omen curse,scarlet rot, blasphemous snake, even radagon was cursed by the fell God of the giants (in a sense he is a "child" Of Marika as well).

After this amazing journey, I'm left with many questions but one in particular: what's next for fromsoftware and miyazaki? What new journeys will they grace us with?

One of the arguements against Marika being involved in the Night of Black Knives is that she could have just have Maliketh shank Godwyn with the Rune of Death and been done with it. No need to have a conspiracy involved.

Well look at that, with the dlc we discovered that the greater will stopped communicating ages ago before even the ascent of Marika

Was the shadow realm originaly part of the lands between before the time of the erdtree? If that's the case, Marika herself didn't come from a different world. Maybe her people did but not her. When Marika becane a god, the erdtree eclipsed the shadow realm.

The new lore additions, especially with the Shaman Village were incredibly excellent. You could easily spend a chunk of time in areas like the Shaman Village or the Cerulean Coast for any lore you might have missed. Your videos on the lore are always fantastic & can be easily listened to for hours. I do have some disagreements towards the end of the video though. I believe the vow is open ended on purpose, so players can decide what to believe. It is entirely possible Miquella did force Radanh into the role however it's also entirely possible the vow was incredibly simplistic. That, if Miquella can find a way to triumph over Radanh in battle, he would prove himself worthy of serving. Which is what I believe. Radanh does enjoy a good battle & he may want his kind little brother to prove to him he has the strength of will needed for the position of godhood. I also do have to disagree, the explanation for why we must slay Miquella feels forced. Grace does not lead us to Ranni, The Frenzied Flame or in fact any other non-default ending, nor would The Greater Will support either of those 2 particular endings. It feels rather pointless to have a whole quest investigation arc into how trustworthy Miquella is, having to double down on helping Knight Leda to slay the disloyal & speaking to St Trinia, if we were just going to ultimately slay Miquella regardless with no convincing needed from the beginning. Additionally it does feel odd that Miquella would want Radanh, a non-empyrean, over his already loyal & very powerful sister, to be his Elden Lord. It would make more sense if they added you had to slay Malenia as well, effectively leaving using Mogh's body to resurrect Radanh as a emergency backup. In fact I'd go further, to state, it would've made more sense to resurrect Prime Godwyn, as Miquella was already researching a way to save Godwyn from his horrible fate caused by Ranni. I think the option should have been given for us to choose rather or not to support Miquella based on the information our character learns. It's a little too on the nose for FS to strip away our ability to make a choice, when Miquella is the one who's supposed to have the power of stripping our free will, not the developers or by extension grace.

I don't think a demigod name starting with M necessarily means it's a child of Marika/Radagon. Maybe it means that the bearer of the name is cursed (Malenia, Miquella, Mohg, Morgott and Messmer). We can find a Godfrey talisman in Messmer castle too.

When you look at the map, you can kinda see what looks like something wrapping around the erd tree, but there obviously isnt, but there is obvious evidence the erd tree was burned down at some point, so i think the origial tree the hornsent worshipped before the lands were split was a tree similar to the scardu tree, as the trees grew it was treated as a crown sprout when one main was selected to be the main stump but another one ended up twisting around it, making the helix. That tree in the main lands was burnt down, and the Erdtree was grafted onto the stump of the helix-hornsend tree. That's where the worship of grafting come from, especially within "the gold lineage" but also the area where the door the the center core area with marika is a triangular shape just like how you would cut for grafting. And it also links the idea of twin being equals but kinda parallels as well. The original helix-hornedsent-crucibal tree was the life side, while the scardue tree is the death side

I believe the "Messmer came back from his crusade and then turned on the Erdtree" idea is more probable than the political angle of selling the crusade, for a couple of reasons. For one, Marika has done these wars before with no real issue in terms of publicity, wiping out the Fire Giants with nothing but rousing support. The second is that Rykard and Messmer seem to have some form of relation, and it's possible the God-Devouring Serpent is something Messmer either brought back from the Shadow Lands or crafted it while there on his crusade. There is an old shed of the God-Devouring Serpent you can find somewhere along the cliffsides, and this implies that the serpent had something to do with the Shadow Lands. As such, with the visions of the Erdtree burning that Messmer has and the imagery Volcano Manor is obsessed with on that front, perhaps Messmer and Rykard both turned against the Erdtree together, perhaps after the Crusade together. The asethetics, equipment, and fire theming all seem to flow neatly together, with Rykard and Messmer both feeling like they fit into the same story of the deceitful serpent that is common knowledge in Golden Order society. The assumption was always that it was Rykard, but the gladiator gear indicates that serpents were considered sinful before Rykard was ever born.

Radahn is the republican and miquella the Democrat. It's near perfect. One wants to keep what he has and the other is some kind of alphabet boy girl that claims kindness will be the new way.

I've just started the video, so you might talk about this later in it, but im confused about 1 thing. In the final battle, we see Miquella having 4 arms, similar to Ranni. He also says something about the " thousand year voyage" that Ranni mentions in her ending. What's up with that? Edit: to add something, who is supposed to be the father of Messmer, Melina and all the nameless demigods in the Shadow Realm?

Just had a thought. Maybe the Finger readers are shaman’s from her village. They know all about Marika and the two fingers. Maybe that’s why?

I've seen a lot of discourse on Reddit with people being very unhappy with the return of radhan and that the DLC didn't have any effect on the main game. I think your synopsis of the story in the last 10 min of this video should be taken into account. I won't tell anybody how to feel, or if they're disappointed. But I feel like this lore opens up some major answers but also raises more questions like any good souls lore should. I think the return of the DLC final boss tracks completely and makes total sense given the backstory we are given bite by bite. And I loved your take on returning to the main game even more emboldened with purpose to ascend to become a Lord. The DLC so far has been a 10 out of 10 for me and I'm not even halfway done.

When Miquella talks about the Champion of the festival and his loyal blade, he's talking to Malenia and Radahn. Not to the Tarnished and Leda. Miquella tells his siblings their deeds will live on, even in his new age.

I hope there's a new ending u can get even after beating the game where u make ure own order
